The Founder
Cory LaViska was born and raised on a hobby farm in a small New Hampshire town. At the age
of 12, he moved to Central Florida with his family, where his interest in computers grew after
he was given his first desktop system.
Cory became hooked on the Web during his tour in the United States Army, where after a field exercise, many of his comrades wanted copies of the digital pictures he had taken. This would become the birth of his personal website, which changed frequently as Cory learned new design and development techniques. One thing led to another and, over time, Cory became a Web Standards evangelist and well-versed in a multitude of programming languages.
In April 2007, he started A Beautiful Site working part-time alongside his full-time job and education. The company officially became an LLC in October 2008, a month before their first service was launched.
Still working and studying full-time, Cory spent the next year supporting, maintaining, and growing Surreal CMS until he graduated from Florida Tech with his Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems. About a month after graduating, Cory left his job to focus all of his efforts on running A Beautiful Site.
Philosophy
We believe that software should be easy, fun, and effective. If you have to spend hours of training to learn an application, the application has failed to deliver on its primary purpose: to make your life easier.
We take a straight-forward approach to developing software:
- Make it simple
- Make it elegant
- Make it functional
- Make it stable
Although there’s a lot of effort and experience that goes into each product, it all boils down to these four basic rules. Software needs to be intuitive. It needs to do what you want to do, when you want to do it. (And it doesn’t hurt to make it look nice at the same time.)
